small note on gender & language

Filed under: Uncategorized — larspalm @ 2:51 pm

listening to the radio earlier today having morning coffee i stumbled upon a show about the local gender neutral pronoun. head woken. questions. when kari edwards published a new book or set of poems it was hir new work. that’s easy. what gender identity would/could/did kari edwards subscribe to? is there a useful alternative in english to he or she? i think most of us wouldn’t feel comfortable as an ”it”. & if we move to spanish where just about everything has a gender. what could be a spanish gender neutral pronoun? is the option they’ve adopted in argentine, where you may freely choose if you’re a he or a she, the only realistic one?. ah, questions

  1. Poor kari edwards. I cannot forget hir.

  2. Lars,
I like “it” as a gender neutral pronoun. Have been using it a lot in the book I’m currently writing.
Also am fond of “(s)he” and “s(he)”.
